These amazing pictures show a world first – the largest gathering of
Smurfs ever!

More than two thousand blue-faced students from Swansea University met
up and obliterated the Guinness World Record for the most people
dressed as Smurfs.

For full story and pictures:

Following almost two years of Smurf Wars – where Universities, towns
and villages have clubbed together donning pointy white hats and blue
body paint – the young academics in these shots significantly raised
the bar at 1am this morning (May 9).

A whopping 2, 510 turned out to parade as the cuddly blue characters
from the hit 80s cartoon.

Costume sellers Jokers’ Masquerade, who supplied the outfits,
considered the event no joking matter. They were so determined to
smash the former record of just over 1000, they supplied 3500 blue
gnome costumes to the south-Wales students.

“Smurf Guinness World Record holder has become an illustrious title,”
says Rebecca Oatley of Jokers’ Masquerade.

“There have been five attempts over the last eighteen months with
Swansea trumping Castleblayney’s 1253 Smurfs recorded last year.

“We knew that if we were going to break the record, we had to do it in
style and 2,510 Smurfs will be a tough act to follow for any budding
record breakers.”

She continues: “This is just the beginning of our World Record run. We
are hoping to set, break and smash Guinness World Records for iconic
characters from Daleks to Superheroes. Watch this space.”

After the event there was still time for the boozy blue students to
enjoy a celebratory drink, jubilant they had recorded the biggest blue
turn-out in history.
