Kadogo the Mountain Gorilla is a one of a kind – he’s the only bald
gorilla in the world.

Looking like a geriatric at just nine-years-old, the Silverback is the
only known gorilla to be born with no hair on his head.
These eye-catching pictures show the cute ape through the years -
sporting a hairless head even immediately after his birth in 2000.

Kadogo lives with his family in Virunga National Park, Democratic
Republic of the Congo. His name actually means “small” in Swahili, the
native language. He was given it by rangers because he was severely
undersized at birth.
Baffled rangers in the park have not yet been able to find the reason
for Kadogo unusual un-furry patch but it has earned him a celebrity
status among visitors.

Ranger Innocent Mburanumwe, 36, who works for the park authority and
is in charge of monitoring area gorilla groups said: “We ask ourselves
why he is the only one like that among all these others in the
wilderness.
“I don’t know why, but it impressed me very much to see a gorilla with
a bald patch like an old man among humans.”
