A French artist has turned his photos of New York City into a set of posters and then blended them back into their surroundings.

For full story and pictures:

Entitled “A Spring of New York”, Parisian artist Frederic Lebain spent three months photographing various backdrops of the Big Apple, before recreating the image in a large poster format.

Returning to the same spot, Frederic then held the poster as he aligned the image to the current scene.

The near perfect results produced picture postcard images with only hands, jeans or feet giving away the artists trickery.

“For me New York is like a scenery and was an ideal setting for the project – to create a new scenery within the scenery,” said the 42-year-old.

“Almost all the areas of New York were perfect; Chelsea, Soho, Tribeca – they worked really well.”

Using the work of Rene Magritte as an inspiration, Frederic chose landscapes that depicted strong characteristics of the city.

“I photographed the scenery and then printed a window of this picture to a size of around 2 m x 1.5 m,” he explained.

“At first people were surprised with the pieces, because everybody thinks they have already seen all the photographic interpretation of the Big Apple – but no!

“Many people thought that it was done with photoshop, but all the process were the result of hours of work and planning.”

Frederic’s work is currently being showcased in galleries in New York and Paris and sells for around £2,700 a piece.
